Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja inaugurated the Saleem Vahidy Auditorium and a new driving license branch at Clifton on Wednesday the 24th May 2017.

An agreement between National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), and the Government has also been signed during the inauguration process. The IG claimed that this system will be spread to other cities of the province. From the new branch in Clifton, he said, the public will be able to get the learning licence in less than five minutes, while the driving licence will take maximum 45 minutes. Apart from this, he said, mobile licencing has been introduced at different public places such as schools, colleges, shopping plazas and parks.

The IG added that the system of fee collection for driving licence has been handed over to NBP from Pakistan Post after Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s approval.

Laptop CPU Cooling Tips During Summer Vacation 2017 for Better Performance

If your laptop is running hot, it’s not good for you or your precious gadget. If laptop is running hot, it’s not good for you or your precious gadget.

Notebooks are designed to pack the most in a limited amount of space. What happens when you squeeze together a bunch of computer parts together in the size of a small box? Everything either runs at sub-optimal capacity or overheats.

To solve that problem, laptop makers add heat vents and a bunch of fans to keep everything running smoothly. Unfortunately for us folks in Pakistan, the summer heat robs us of that convenience.

Here’s how you can keep your laptop cool and avoid overheating or damaging it.

No Laps or Uneven Surfaces

Despite their name, laptops should not be placed on your lap while you’re using them. It can potentially block the air vents, trapping the heat inside your notebook.

The best option here is to use a laptop stand or placing something underneath it to elevate the thing. You can use a small book for this but make sure it doesn’t block the vents.

Alternatively you can also place it on a smooth flat surface.

Buy a Cooling Pad or Fan It

If the first option didn’t work out well you can buy a cooling pad instead. If you’re the experimental type or on a budget (or both) you can try making one. There are plenty of guides on YouTube for a DIY cooling pad for laptops.

Another option is placing a standing/pedestal fan near your laptop if you can’t buy/make a cooling pad.

Clean it Inside Out

Ah dust, the enemy of all things electronic.

Pakistanis are all too familiar with the menace of dust gathering on stuff all the time. If dust gathers inside your laptop’s vents, fans it can block the airflow.

Be sure to get your laptop cleaned by a laptop service person or from a repair shop every once in a while. Once every two months should be enough.

If you’re on a budget or can’t be bothered to go to a laptop repair shop, you can try doing it yourself. Use a compressed can of air to spray short bursts of air inside the vents. You can also use your mom’s hairdryer for this too.

It is advised that you get it thoroughly cleaned out by an experienced repairman though.

Check and Adjust Settings

Reducing the workload on your laptop can also help lower the temperature. Changing your power plan to balanced or power saver decreases the performance of your notebook which can also reduce heat issues.

You can try other things as well such as:

Lowering your screen brightness
Unplugging unnecessary USB devices
Closing apps that use up CPU

An important thing to note here is that some laptops have a high speed/loud fan by default. This doesn’t necessarily mean that your laptop is overheating. If you get frequent crashes or abrupt shutdowns coupled with high fan speed, then you may have a problem on your hands.

Monitoring the fan speed of your laptop can help in this case. Download SpeedFan to monitor temperatures and fan speeds.

Leave it Idle

This one may be obvious but giving your laptop a rest can also help cool it down.

Frequently turning it off and on is not recommended. If you turned on your laptop for a quick edit on Microsoft Word or for checking your mail, you should leave it on for a while.

Have any other tips or ideas for cooling your laptop/notebook? Feel free to comment below.

PTV Global Becoming First State Run Children Entertainment Channel a First Kids Channel of Pakistan

The Ministry of Information is all set to convert the state-run Pakistan Television’s Global channel into the first-ever official children entertainment network.

State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Tuesday:

“This move [to establish a children’s channel] is aimed at promoting children entertainment industry in order to create awareness among children about their rights, culture, tradition and values,”

She told reporters at the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (Szabist):

“Several meetings have been held with prominent broadcasting industry people and soon the plan for converting the PTV Global into children’s channel will be implemented.”

Aurangzeb said no work has been done for children’s entertainment in broadcasting industry at government level over the last 35 years and there was a need to work on children’s entertainment at the national level in order to provide them useful infotainment.

She added:

“All efforts will be made to educate our children and youth, utilising our national heritage.”

The minister said on the PM’s directives the film industry was also being revived which was the need of the hour.

She said:

“Globally, countries are using their film industry for creating awareness among youth about important social issues and also for conveying powerful social messages.”

PTV a Positive Image of Pakistan

Bringing the terrorism discussion at the forefront, she said that the country has been under a constant terrorist threat since the last 30 years. It has decreased the level of tolerance among the general public, said the minister.

The media can play an important role in this regard by presenting a positive image of Pakistan and its society. Media should aid the government in creating and promoting a positive image of our country, said Ms. Aurangzeb.

We thankful to Government of Pakistan for PTV Global Becoming First State Run Children Entertainment Channel a first ever kids channel in the history of Pakistan.

Nvidia GT 1030 Low Budget Graphics Card for eSports Lovers

Nvidia has released a new low-end graphics card in the GeForce GT 1030 for entry-level and budget-minded users. It's the latest GPU within Nvidia's 10 series (all equipped with the Pascal architecture), and is priced around $70. The GT1030 is available now from a variety of PC part supplies, including Zotac, MSI, and Gigabyte.
The GT 1030 provides a little more power than what an integrated graphics processor (IGP) offers and is targeted to those who mainly play less demanding games such as League of Legends or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It's also useful for 4K home theater setups, since many older IGPs cannot do 4K.
Specifications
The card launches with 2 GB of GDDR5 VRAM coupled with a clock speed of 1227 MHz, with a maximum of 1468 MHz. It has a 64-bit memory interface, just 384 CUDA cores as well as bandwidth of 48 GB/s. Other specs such as the transistor count are not known for now. The new GT 1030 is a $70 card which primarily targets e-Sports gamers.

Aesthetically, the card should fit in the most-cramped of systems, measuring just 4.7 by 6.7 inch. It has a rated power draw of 30W (power supplies of 300W are recommended) and comes with DVI, DisplayPort and HDMI 2.0b ports for monitors. There’s support for Vulkan, OpenGL 4.5 and DX12, but for obvious reasons features like SLI and G-sync are a no-go.
The card has been released for gamers already. Competing solutions from the likes of EVGA and Zotac are out too.
Targeting an eSports Audience
While both the GT 1030 and RX 550 target casual or eSports gamers who need power for little more than DOTA 2 or Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it is still recommended to save for a bit more and go for either the RX 460 or Nvidia’s own GTX 1050, which don’t cost a lot more but more than make up for their prices.
They’ll also be of much more use should you become a more serious player in the future. However, for movie setups at home, the value that they provide can be substantial.

Ghazala Sharif First Lady Police SHO Lahore Appointed in a Regular Police Station

Ghazala Sharif First Lady Police SHO Lahore Update: After 19 years, a woman has been appointed as the station house officer (SHO) at a regular police station in Lahore.

DIG Operations Dr Haider Ashraf promoted Ghazala Sharif to the post of the Rang Mahal Police Station SHO – making her the first woman to have been appointed to this position in the city after 19 years.

Ghazala Sharif First Lady Police SHO Lahore told ARY News that:
“This is great initiative by police authorities who expressed their trust in me,” she said while speaking to ARY News correspondent Sania Chaudhry. ”
Ghazala Sharif First Lady Police SHO Lahore added:
"This is the first time in 19 years a woman has been appointed as SHO, and I hope to live up to the expectations and trust confided in me.”
Besides, sub-inspector Nabila Kausar has been appointed the SHO of the women’s Race Course Police Station (RCPS).

Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, a city of approximately 15 million people, has 84 police stations. However, there is only one women’s police station in the city. The RCPS is used to keep female suspects behind bars. Cases whereby both the suspect and the person who has filed a complaint are female are registered at the RCPS.

The DIG’s step to appoint a female SHO came as a result of new officers receiving training specifically for this post. A refresher and training course of over a 100 inspectors and sub-inspectors including women was conducted at the Qila Gujjar Singh Police Lines.

There are five more female officers who are going under training and doing refresher course for SHOs. They would also be considered to be posted as SHOs.

The purpose of the refresher course was to bring forth new officers who could be posted as SHOs.

For many years, the police department, because of a shortage of trained officers, have had to persist with a certain pool of officers to fill the SHO slots.

Apart from Ghazala, other female sub-inspectors are also taking the refresher course so that they can be considered for appointment as SHOs.

We wish best of luck to Ghazala Sharif First Lady Police SHO Lahore.

Aisha Mughal First Transgender University Lecturer

Transgender are considered as the abomination in Pakistani society. No matter how much activists come forward, no matter how much voice they raise, these people are considered as the useless gender. Transphobia is unfortunately common in our society and such minorities are not often given such opportunities despite their skills and education.

However, it is in these recent times, that castrates have come forward to prove their mettle and worth. It is in their extreme hard work that just recently Aisha Mughal has been appointed as Pakistan’s first ever teacher belonging to the third gender.

It has happened for the very first time in the history of Pakistan that government has officially appointed a transgender as a teacher. This amazing step has been taken in the federal capital Islamabad and is being warmly appreciated and welcomed by the masses. Aisha has been appointed as the lecturer of the Department of Gender in Quaid-e-Azam University.

What's commendable about Aisha's appointment is that she came forward and stood strong to prove her mettle in a society like ours. Transgenders, with proper education and enlightenment can prove to be contributing citizens of society, just like any other individual. With the proper awareness and provision of resources, transgenders can be given the opportunity to carve out a respectable living for themselves.

This step taken by the administration of Quaid-e-Azam University and the Education department in general is one initiative that we all should applaud and appreciate. Making third gender or transgender feel that they are equally a part of this society is the responsibility of each and every citizen that belong to this country.

After Kami Sid, Aisha Mughal could prove to be the next transgender sensation, making headlines, stepping ahead to break all stereotypes and enlightening the youth of today. HIP wishes Aisha all the best for her future endeavors!

Pakistan Pro Wrestling Entertainment PWE 2017 Karachi Event Remarkque on the Minds of Wrestling Fans

Generations of Pakistanis have grown up watching wrestling on their television screens and wishing they could witness such spectacles live in their cities. That decades-old dream has finally come true when world famous professional wrestlers set foot in Pakistan on 17th May 2017.

Pakistan Pro Wrestling Entertainment (PWE) first event in Karachi was held at KMC Sports Complex with a dozen international stars performing live for the local audience.

Like the shows you watched on TV, the event began with wrestlers coming out for their introduction. Here’s the list of top performers who came to Pakistan:

Wade Barrett,
Carlito,
Badshah Pehlwan Khan,
Xtreme Fury,
Starbuck,
Prince Zefy,
Bernard Vandamme,
Adam Flex Maxted,
Angel’s Bombita,
Tiny Iron,
Mickey and Betty Trash,
The Omen,
Yacine Osmani,
Fabio Ferrari,
Aaron Rammy,
Audrey Bride
Tim Tango

They were all given a grand reception. Out of all of them, Barett, Carlito and Khan received the loudest cheers from the crowd.

The two former WWE stars had the crowd in the palm of their hands. The charged-up Karachi crowd, in reciprocation, gave the stars from foreign shores an unforgettable welcome, which was evident by the smile on Barrett’s face.

In all, seven matches were held among different competitors, but more than the happenings of inside the ring what transpired outside was more interesting. The crowd screamed their lungs out and at times it seemed that the proverbial roof might come off.

In the main event, Khan and Carlito faced off, with Barrett acting as the special guest referee. As the match neared its climax, Carlito drew his famous prop — an apple — took a bite and attempted to spit it in Khan’s face.

Having anticipated the disgusting chewed-up fruit attack, Khan got out of the way just at the right time, leaving the unfortunate Barrett and his face exposed.

An understandably irked Barrett, in retaliation, hit Carlito with his finisher Bull Hammer, allowing Khan to capitalise and win the match. With that, it became clear as to who will be PWE’s main asset as well as the primary contender to become Pakistan’s first-ever World Heavyweight Champion.

PWE Upcoming Event

Not everything went as planned during the event with sound issues and rope problems. However, that certainly did not spoil the event for the wrestling fans who witnessed history in the making.

In fact, there’s more pro wrestling to come. The next two events will be held in Lahore on May 19th and Islamabad on May 21st respectively.

This event in particular will be remembered as the first signature PWE show which single-handedly kickstarted the international pro wrestling scene in Pakistan.

Tang Limopani Sunsip Fizzy Carbonated Drinks are Harmful for Your Children Warning Issued by PFA

Punjab Food Authority (PFA) is fairly active these days. Other than banning certain food items in school canteens, the authority is also campaigning actively against food items which either cause harm or do not contain any nutritional value, especially for children.

In its most recent public awareness message, PFA informs that a recent government survey shows that 44 percent children in Pakistan suffer from lack of proper nutrition. In its campaign to inform parents about adequate diet and healthy food items for kids, PFA said that instant drinks are bad for growing children.

PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal told The Express Tribune that:

"Instant carbonated drinks are not good for the physical and mental health of growing children. He said PFA would issue guidelines to food outlets not to provide underage kids with carbonated drinks."

He stressed:
“We have to protect our future”
The initial move to take instant carbonated drinks out of school cafeterias was aimed at addressing growth issues among kids. It was approved by the Punjab Food Authority board earlier this month, with implementation likely to begin after the summer holidays.

Instant drinks are those which come in powdered form and are mixed with water. According to PFA, Tang, Mixer Star, Sunsip Limupani, Fruitly and any other similar drinks are completely artificial.

Such drinks make use of artificial flavors and colors. One can only obtain calories from such food items as they lack “Original Fruit Content” and any other nutritional content.

The authority recommends that parents should avoid such drinks which have no nutritional value and instead choose fruit juices, flavored milk, milk shakes, etc. for better physical and mental health of their children.

Mengal confirmed the authority was considering banning the sale of carbonated beverages to anyone under 18 years of age, considering their adverse effects. As far as schools are concerned, the authority will replace soft drinks with healthier alternatives such as juices or flavoured milk.

According to the approved guidelines, food has been placed in three categories – red, yellow and green. The red category includes food and drinks that should not be available at school canteens, such as carbonated drinks, most canned items, and sweets, toffees, candies, and chocolate.

Food in the yellow category, according to the proposal, should be sold in small quantities and displayed less prominently. Such items include tea, coffee, packed fruit juices, biscuit, ice creams, naan, shawarma, paratha rolls, patties, nuggets, French fries, samosas, pizzas, and burgers.

The third or green category was food that is recommended.  It includes seasonal fruits, fresh fruit juices, fruit chats, chana chats, pastas, sandwiches, rice, flavoured and plain milk, milkshakes, lassi, flavoured yoghurts, eggs, and nuts.

The DG stated that the PFA was working on awareness campaigns to promote lunch boxes among school-going children.
