United Automobiles, the makers of United Motorcycles have teamed up with a Chinese company. There’s no word on detailed specifications or price, for now, however, United might price it close to Rs. 7 lacs to remain competitive. Suzuki Ravi might not be its only competitor in the future as JW Forland’s feature-rich commercial trucks are also gaining popularity.

Pakistan’s Auto Sector

United Autos, just like Sazgar – a rickshaw manufacturer, is a local auto company which expanded its operations to assemble cars and other four-wheeled vehicles. The company recently got its Greenfield status from the government and has already set up a manufacturing facility in Lahore.

Aside from United Autos’ two new upcoming vehicles, the Regal Motors has also launched its DFSK Glory 580 SUV to compete in the SUV market. And moreover, Master Motors will also be launching JAC T6 shortly.

Dewan Daehan Shehzore Cargo Mini Truck Relaunched in Karachi Pakistan

Dewan Daehan Shehzore Cargo Mini Truck Update:

Yousuf Dewan Companies, one of Pakistan’s most prominent business houses, entered into a joint venture with the Kolao Group of South Korea in April 2016. The new JV Company, Daehan-Dewan Motor Company, unveiled Dewan Daehan Shehzore Cargo Mini Truck, the immensely popular pickup Dewan Daehan Shehzore Cargo Mini Truck, as it resumes vehicle production at its automobile assembly plant in Sujawal, Sindh.

The factory, rated at 20,000 units per annum on double shift basis, is one of the best in Pakistan equipped with CED paint-shop with painting robots, a technology that ensures complete rust protection and high-quality painting.

This development was made possible after Dewan Farooque Motors Limited (DFML) received the coveted Brownfield status from the Ministry of Industries and Production. The unveiling of Dewan Daehan Shehzore Cargo Mini Truck pickup took place at Mohatta Palace Museum, Karachi in a grand ceremony on 25th of February, 2018.

The relaunching ceremony of Dewan Daehan Shehzore Cargo Mini Truck was attended by the Honourable Minister for Interior, Planning, Development and Reforms, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal, Chairman Kolao Group Mr. Oh Sei Young, government officials, members of diplomatic corps, industry leaders, media, and other dignitaries.

Speaking at the occasion, Dewan Muhammad Yousuf Farooqui, Chairman Yousuf Dewan Companies, said:

"Shehzore pick-up is the most popular light commercial vehicle in the automotive history of Pakistan. With over 50,000 units in operation, Shehzore has become the generic name for pick-ups in the country."

At the occasion, Oh Sei Young, Chairman Kolao Group and the Joint Venture Partner in Daehan Dewan Motor Company, said:

“I am confident that the Daehan Shehzore will achieve the desired results and assure you that the Kolao Group will consistently provide full support to the JVA. I am positive that the comeback of Shehzore pick-up under Daehan will regain market leadership in its segment.”

Features and Specifications

According to the details available to us, the all-new pickup is equipped with a diesel engine as previous Shehzore pickups. Moreover, the dimensions of the pickup are 5145mm Length, 1740mm Width, and 2020mm Height. Additionally, it has a wheelbase of 2430mm. The vehicle produces 77.9 horsepower at 4000rpm; furthermore, the engine produces 166.7Nm torque at 2200rpm. It is pertinent to mention here that the newly launched Shehzore is equipped with air conditioner, which was not present in previous Shehzore pickups. The vehicle houses power steering.

Other features include:

• Brakes: Ventilated Discs with Dual Piston Caliper (front), Duo-Servo Drum (rear)
• Suspension: Double Wishbone and Torsion Bar (front), Leaf springs (rear)
• 65 litres fuel tank.

One important thing to keep in mind here is that previously the Shehzore was a Hyundai vehicle. This time around, the Shehzore nameplate has been used for a Daehan vehicle. The loading pickup was very successful back in the days due to its performance, and now with its relaunch as a new vehicle, it would be interesting to see how it will perform in the local industry.

Daehan Shehzore comes with a beautiful exterior design featuring an aerodynamic cabin, front-opening maintenance panel, and stylish head and fog lamps.

The low-flooring, three-side dropable deck delivers maximum loading and unloading efficiency. Many of the vehicle’s essential components – such as tires, battery, seats, rear deck, and exhaust system etc. – are locally produced in Pakistan.

As the DFML assembly plant resumes production, the launch of Daehan Shehzore pickup will be followed by the introduction of other high-quality light commercial vehicle and SUVs in near future. The company believes that CPEC-linked infrastructure development across Pakistan is set to send the country’s economic activity to new highs with an immense increase in demand for commercial vehicles to meet which DDMC is all geared-up.

Wichita Art Museum Pakistani Cargo Truck Art Update: Pakistan’s ‘truck art’ is now quite a well-known ‘genre’ around the world. For long, it has been an homegrown art-form in South Asia, especially in Pakistan, where the whole idea of decorating trucks (also, lorries and even rickshaws) with complex floral patterns and poetic calligraphy, has evolved in the most radiant and innovative manner.

This indigenous art-form became known to the developed world from the 1970s onwards when European and American tourists took back the photographs they had taken of heavily painted and decorated trucks and buses on the roads and streets of Pakistan.

From the late 1980s, the government of Pakistan and enterprising individuals began to organise truck art exhibitions abroad and by the early 2000s, the genre had established itself as an exciting and vibrant ‘folk art-form’ from Pakistan.

The huge flamboyantly colored trucks and auto rickshaws have become one of the most prominent cultural symbols of Pakistan. The design on each truck is unique and different in its own way.

Given how well-received Pakistani truck art is becoming all over the world, a Pakistani-American artist named Asheer Akram has taken it upon himself to display these work of art trucks in America Wichita Art Museum Pakistani Cargo Truck Art.

The artist is very passionate about his work. His truck art designs will be displayed in the Wichita Art Museum Pakistani Cargo Truck Art in Kansas.

He came up with the idea of this project when he came to Pakistan for a residency program. Throughout his stay, he observed the beautiful art that could be seen on the trucks.

These trucks gave birth to the idea of how to promote a positive image of Pakistan, inside him for Wichita Art Museum Pakistani Cargo Truck Art.

After returning to the US he started the Pakistan Cargo Truck initiative.

While writing about his passion for his work he wrote in a post on Facebook:

“I am certain about one thing- this project and its off shoots are as important today as they were when it first rolled out.”

He further added:

"Not only as a tool for spreading cultural awareness but as a method of opening up a dialog about current events with younger generations. We are thrilled to have her still rolling strong. Fighting #racism and #bigotry since 2013."

The truck used in his project is a Chevrolet grain truck which he has decorated with the typical Pakistani truck art with a splash of modern art in Wichita Art Museum Pakistani Cargo Truck Art.

On his website, he says that the trucks covered in the new motifs and designs seek to “captivate everyone and inspire them to investigate cultures outside of their everyday surroundings.”

His aim is to promote a positive image of Pakistan and explain the social and cultural identity of his native country.

Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 Revealed with Awesome Design

Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 Update: Based on the Nissan Navara, the new Mercedes X-Class aims to bring ‘premium’ to the pick-up market.

Mercedes has a history of producing vans for the commercial vehicle market – but now the firm is branching out further with its new pick-up, called the Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018. It’s due on sale in November 2017.

The Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 is the result of a parts-sharing deal between Mercedes and the Renault-Nissan Alliance – so it’s based on the ladder-frame platform of the Japanese brand’s Navara pick-up that will soon also bring us the Renault Alaskan.

Mercedes has made significant modifications right across the board, however, in a bid to produce a pick-up that it deems worthy of the three-pointed star – and a significantly inflated price tag.

It’s a strategy Mercedes-Benz has employed before in the commercial vehicle market with its Citan van sharing much with the Renault Kangoo.

The key for Mercedes is to create distance between the Navara/Alaskan and the X-Class by building in a higher level of quality and technology that will convince buyers that the Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 is worth paying the Mercedes-Benz premium for.

Head of Mercedes-Benz vans Volker Mornhinweg explained that:

"The X-Class will redefine the pick-up into a true premium vehicle."

Before outlining the opportunity Mercedes sees in the global pick-up market.

Volker Mornhinweg added:

"Look back in time and compare what has happened to SUVs. They were rough and tough vehicles and now they're family cars. The same could happen with the pick-up".

Mercedes estimates that that the global pick-up segment will expand to the tune of 1m units by 2026, an uplift of 43%.

Exterior Design and Dimensions

The Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 is 40mm longer than its sister vehicle. More tellingly, it’s also 70mm wider at 1,920mm and a height of 1,819mm makes it 21mm lower than the Navara too - evidence of Mercedes’ design team striving for that powerful road presence to mark the X-Class out.

The extra width helps the Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 accommodate a wider track front and rear that works with a 10mm lower ride height to boost stability as well as that all-important stance on the road.

It also boosts cabin space with passengers getting an extra 25mm of shoulder room in the Mercedes.

The X-Class’s side profile is very close to the Navara’s but there are subtle changes throughout. The cleaner design is intended to accentuate the short front overhang and the long one at the rear for a more dynamic look.

The front end is distinctively Mercedes, with an oversized grille similar to that found on the marque’s SUVs and a large three-pointed-star badge.

Around at the rear there’s the chunky bumper with its integrated step as seen on the Navara, but this can be deleted by customers who need the tailgate to swing down beyond the standard 90 degrees.

The Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 gains progressively more chrome and body-colouring at both ends.

The aim is to move away from the pick-up’s working vehicle roots, positioning is as more of a stylish utility vehicle. It’s what the market wants and what Mercedes feels it’s well placed to deliver.

Interior

While the platform might have been sourced off the Navara, the interior of the new X Class is all unique Mercedes. The X Class elevates comfort and quality feel to a new level within this segment of vehicles.

The instrument panel has the concave trim element typical of a Mercedes. There’s also a COMMAND Online multimedia system included that features a 8.4-inches screen, which is also the biggest display in the segment.

It has a resolution of 960×540 pixels and high-contrast IPS technology which just simply means that is is both sharp and clearly visible at any angle.

Coming to the instrument cluster, you’d almost instantly recognize it for being a Mercedes Benz. It features large, analogue round dials that are available in the C-Class.

There’s also a 5.4-inch color multimedia display in between the round dials. The buttons on the 3-spoke steering wheels are used to navigate through this screen.

In the center console, you’ll also find the multifunction touchpad that is also similar to most other passenger cars that the company produces.

Engines and Transmissions

The X-Class engine line-up is based on four and six-cylinder diesel motors. The X 220d (161bhp) and X 250d (188bhp) use the same 2.3-litre four-cylinder diesel in single and twin-turbo form respectively. Both of these engines get a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, but a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic is offered as an option on the higher-powered unit.

By next summer a V6 diesel will have joined the line-up in the X 350d, offering 255bhp and paired up with permanent four-wheel drive and a 7G Tronic automatic gearbox. It will also come with Mercedes’ Dynamic Select as standard, offering the ability to switch between Comfort, Eco, Sport, Manual and Offroad driving modes – a first for the pick-up segment.

The Mercedes Benz X Class Concept Pickup Truck 2018 uses double wishbone front axle and, unusually for a pick-up, a multi-link rear suspension.

Mercedes has developed a bespoke suspension set-up, stiffened areas of the ladder frame chassis and added a faster steering ratio, all to try and replicate some of the comfort and driving dynamics its passenger cars are known for.

The X-Class is also the only pick-up to offer internally vented brake discs on all wheels as standard. The front axle has 320mm discs and there are 308mm items at the rear.

Variants

The X Class will be available in three variants to suit different work environments:

The X Class Pure: This is the basic variant that is ideal for rugged and functional uses. It fulfills all the demanded places on a workhorse. At the same time you also get the comfort and design that you would expect from a Mercedes.

The X Class Progressive: This variant is aimed at people seeking a rugged pickup with extra styling and comfort functions.

The X Class Power: This features a high-end design and equipment line. It is aimed at customers for whom styling, performance and comfort are paramount.

Through its design and high level of equipment it reflects an independent and individualistic lifestyle.

Pricing & Availability

The Mercedes Benz X Class will be first made available n Europe, Africa South America and a few other markets. Pricing starts at around €37,000 which is almost equal to Rs. 44,800,00.

Only time will tell for how much it will go for when it comes to Pakistan officially.
