Supreme Court Bans Venomous Malicious Indian Content Update:


The Supreme Court on Saturday 27th October 2018 imposed a ban on airing of Indian content on Pakistani TV Channels.

A three-member bench of the top court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar gave the verdict. Supreme Court Bans Venomous Malicious Indian Content.

Therefore these three member bench impose the restriction during a hearing at the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry.

Besides that during the hearing, the top judge also suspend an earlier high court decision of screening foreign content.

CJP Nisar said:
“Indian content must be banned as they are shutting down our dams. Should we not ban their channels?”

Because, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) had impose a blanket ban in October 2016 on the broadcast of Indian content on local TV Channels and Radio channels.

The ban had come as a ‘tit-for-tat move’ when India banns the transmission of Pakistani content after Uri Attack. Supreme Court Bans Venomous Malicious Indian Content.

Lahore High Court (LHC) lifts the ban while directing to censor only objectionable Indian content or content containing anti-Pakistan rhetoric.

Besides that it further observe that PEMRA acted on its own regarding this ban, as the federal government did not object to the transmission of Indian content on local TV Channels.

Notably, many Pakistani celebrities staged a protest outside the apex court against the local TV Channels airing foreign content.

The apex court has reinstated the ban on the transmission of Indian content while hearing a petition of United Producers Association (UPA) on the matter.

Most Importantly, many notable actors like Faysal Qureshi, Samina Ahmed, Adnan Siddiqui, and others came forward to endorse the stance.
