PTA DIRBS Extends Deadline Dearie Unregistered Mobile Phones Update:
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) on Thursday the 18th October 2018 extends its deadline for blocking unregistered Smartphones till further notice.
Therefore, senate Standing Committee on information technology directed the PTA not to block mobile phones. PTA DIRBS Extends Deadline Dearie Unregistered Mobile Phones.
Becasue committee needs approve PTA Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) mechanism.
Besides that, Senate further directed the authorities to first launch an awareness campaign to educate the public about the implications of the move.

The committee members were of the view that the system had spread panic amongst Smartphones users.

According to a PTA’s press statement, people can continue using DIRBS facility to verify the status of the mobile device’s IMEI(s).
Earlier, the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication directs the PTA to extend by one month its October 20, 2018 deadline for blocking unregistered Smartphones.
However, the committee members were of the view that not all the 150 million Smartphones users could understand the PTA message and afford the purchase of a new phone.
Most importantly PTA launched DIRBS on May 10, 2018. PTA DIRBS Extends Deadline Dearie Unregistered Mobile Phones.
Because, it included mapping and identification of IMEIs and blocking of stolen/lost devices and Smartphones.
Keeping in view the requests of various stakeholders and for smooth implementation, the deadline for Phase-1 was extended from June 29 to August 30, 2018.
The Phase-II was to be starts from August 31, 2018 and PTA had stated that no further extension will grant. PTA DIRBS Extends Deadline Dearie Unregistered Mobile Phones.
Besides that in Phase-II, full blocking will be implement for all non-compliant devices that are not PTA approve.
In line with Telecommunication Policy 2015, PTA develop a Device Identification Registration & Blocking System (DIRBS) for facilitation of general public.
